Please Do Not Bring Sick or Injured Birds to Our Store

Wild Birds Unlimited of Colorado Springs cannot accept sick, injured, orphaned, or deceased birds under any circumstances. Please do not bring wildlife into the store.

We are a retail bird-feeding store, not a licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility. We cannot examine, capture, transport, house, or treat wild birds. Our staff also cannot provide instructions for handling or caring for an individual bird.

 

What Should You Do?

Unless the bird is creating an immediate safety hazard, do nothing until you have spoken with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

• Do not touch, capture or move the bird.
• Do not offer food or water.
• Do not give the bird medication.
• Keep children and pets away.
• Observe the bird from a safe distance.
• Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and follow their instructions.

If the bird is in immediate danger, such as being in a roadway or at risk from a pet or predator, carefully move it out of danger or secure it in a ventilated cardboard box if you can do so safely. Keep the bird somewhere dark and quiet, do not offer food or water, and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately for further instructions.

 

 

Is It a Baby Bird?

Young birds are commonly found on or near the ground while their parents are still caring for them. A fully feathered young bird may be a healthy fledgling learning to fly.

Please do not capture or move a young bird based only on its age or location. Keep people and pets away and contact a licensed rehabilitator before taking action. The rehabilitator can help determine whether the bird needs assistance.
